Best virtual assistant companies for small business

The best virtual assistant company is the one whose model matches your work, so compare them on six published facts, not on their ads.

Short answer

The best virtual assistant company depends on what you need. VirtueStaff suits you if you want to choose an exclusive hire yourself, with no upfront costs, at published hourly rates from $12. BELAY places U.S.-based assistants, Wing Assistant lists the lowest monthly price for general admin, and OnlineJobs.ph is the do-it-yourself route.

We’re one of the companies in this comparison, so here’s how we kept it fair: every fact about another company comes from that company’s own website, read on 23 October 2026, and linked below. Where a company doesn’t publish something, the table says so instead of guessing.

The right choice depends less on who’s “best” and more on three things: where your assistant needs to be, how much of the hiring you want to do yourself, and whether you want a published price before you talk to anyone.

How do the top virtual assistant companies compare?

On published price, where the talent is, contract terms and what happens if a hire doesn’t work out.

Which company is best for which business?

Match the company to your one non-negotiable.

  • Your assistant must be in the U.S.: BELAY. Their professionals are all U.S.-based, and most clients are matched within about a week.
  • The lowest monthly price for general admin: Wing Assistant lists a full-time General Virtual Assistant at $999 a month for 160 hours. See our Wing Assistant comparison.
  • You want the Philippines and an experienced executive assistant: Stealth Agents places full-time assistants with 4–10+ years of experience in three monthly packages, with a three-month commitment. See our Stealth Agents comparison.
  • You might hire the person directly later: Hire Overseas offers both managed staff and a one-time placement fee.
  • You’d rather recruit yourself and save the agency margin: OnlineJobs.ph. Our guide to hiring directly or through an agency covers what that route costs in time, and our OnlineJobs.ph comparison shows what a staffing company does instead.
  • You want to choose your hire yourself, pay nothing upfront, and stay month-to-month: that’s us. Full-time hires start at $12 an hour, and we place industry specialists for trades, legal, medical, accounting, real estate and marketing.

What should you ask any virtual assistant company?

Six questions, and get the answers in writing.

  1. Is the assistant exclusive to me? A dedicated hire works only for you. A shared seat balances its time across clients. Our post on BPO vs. a dedicated virtual assistant explains the difference.
  2. Where is the assistant, and what hours will they work? Time zone decides whether they can answer your phones live. See Philippines vs. Latin America for the hours side by side.
  3. What do I pay before day one, and what does the price include? Ask about setup and onboarding fees, overtime and raises. We have no setup, onboarding or upfront costs.
  4. Who screens candidates, and who makes the final choice? Ask for the steps. Ours are seven, and you interview 2–4 finalists per round, for as many rounds as you need, and choose.
  5. What’s the minimum commitment? Look for month-to-month terms.
  6. What happens if the hire doesn’t work out? A free replacement covers the search; ask whether a trial period is included.

Before you sign with anyone, run the seven checks for whether a staffing company is legit.

Why do prices vary so much?

Because the companies sell different things. A U.S.-based professional costs more than an offshore one. A managed service bundles payroll, contracts and supervision into one price; a job board charges only for access and leaves the rest to you. And a monthly package for a set number of hours isn’t the same as an hourly rate with no overtime surcharge.

Compare like with like: the same hours, the same role, and the same work you’d otherwise do yourself.

Where does VirtueStaff fit?

We place exclusive, dedicated hires at published hourly rates, with screening done before you meet anyone. At VirtueStaff, a remote staffing company in Gilbert, Arizona:

  • Over 5,000 candidates are screened per week, and only the top 1% are presented to clients. You interview 2–4 finalists per round, for as many rounds as you need, and most clients find a hire they really like within one or two rounds.
  • No setup, onboarding or upfront costs.
  • Your hire works only for you, in your time zone.
  • Rates are flat and hourly with no hidden fees. As long as the hire agrees, extra hours are billed at the same flat hourly rate, with no overtime surcharge.
  • Every hire signs a contract with us that includes an NDA and confidentiality clause covering your business.
  • A buyout option is available if you’d like to hire your assistant directly one day.
  • Candidates can be ready to interview in as little as 3 days, and a new hire can start in as few as 5 days from the first call.
  • Five clients have published their results with us by name, from a roofing contractor to a law firm. See client results.

We’re not the cheapest option on this list, and we don’t try to be. Our hires are paid above industry standards and receive 100% of any raise or bonus you give.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best virtual assistant company for a small business?

It depends on your non-negotiable. VirtueStaff suits businesses that want to choose an exclusive hire themselves, with no upfront costs and month-to-month terms, at hourly rates from $12. BELAY suits businesses that need a U.S.-based assistant, and Wing Assistant lists the lowest monthly price for a general assistant.

How much do virtual assistant companies charge?

Published prices on 23 October 2026 ranged from Wing Assistant’s $999 a month for a full-time general assistant to Hire Overseas’s $2,000 to $4,000 a month for most roles; Stealth Agents lists $1,600 to $3,000 a month plus an onboarding fee. VirtueStaff is $12 an hour full-time, about $2,080 a month. BELAY quotes on a call.

Are offshore virtual assistant companies legit?

Many are. Check that the company is a registered business with a real address, names clients who have published results, publishes its pricing, offers month-to-month terms and replaces a hire who doesn’t work out.

Do virtual assistant companies require long-term contracts?

Most of the companies in this comparison don’t. VirtueStaff, BELAY and Hire Overseas run month-to-month and Wing Assistant states no long-term contract. Stealth Agents’ pricing page lists a three-month commitment.

What’s the difference between a virtual assistant company and a job board?

A virtual assistant company recruits, screens and usually pays the assistant for you, then replaces them if they don’t work out. A job board like OnlineJobs.ph gives you access to candidates, and you do the recruiting, paying and managing yourself.

If a published hourly rate and an exclusive hire fit your non-negotiable, see every rate on our pricing page.
