How Titan Roofing’s one-person finance team got its nights and weekends back
A growing roofing company, one person handling billing, payables, receivables, and insurance compliance, and 60-hour weeks that still weren’t enough. Here’s what changed with one remote hire.

What the finance lead worked each week before
Titan Roofing & Construction, an Arizona roofing contractor with offices in Mesa and Tucson, made its first offshore hire through VirtueStaff in April 2026: a remote finance specialist who enters invoices, tracks insurance for more than 50 subcontractors, and sends preliminary notices every week. Its finance lead is no longer working nights and weekends.
About Titan Roofing
- Locally owned and operated
- Offices in Mesa and Tucson, AZ
- GAF Certified contractor
Titan Roofing & Construction is an Arizona roofing contractor for residential and commercial properties, installing and repairing shingle, tile, and foam roofs and helping homeowners through insurance claims. The company is built on integrity and long-term client relationships, one roof at a time.
The challenge
When Titan was smaller, Joey could manage the company’s finances on her own. As the business grew, so did the load: accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing, and keeping more than 50 subcontractors compliant on insurance.
She was averaging at least 60 hours a week, and still falling behind on account reconciliations and the details she knew mattered.
“I felt like I was almost drowning. It was just a one-man show here, being spread thin, and knowing that I’m not paying attention to detail as I should be.”
— Joey, Titan Roofing & Construction
The work didn’t require someone physically in the office. But Titan had never hired offshore, and because the role would touch the company’s books and accounts, Joey’s biggest question was trust: are these people vetted and screened?
A better way to hire
VirtueStaff presented multiple pre-vetted candidates to interview side by side. For Titan, that was new. On other roles, they had often hired the first candidate who interviewed well, and when it didn’t work out, they had to start over.
“We were able to filter that out in the beginning, and it’s been really successful for us.”
— Joey
Titan hired a finance specialist who came in with the background and experience to hit the ground running.
What the new hire owns
| Responsibility | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Invoicing | Enters the invoices that come in every day, accurately and on time |
| Insurance compliance | Built and maintains a tracker for every subcontractor’s general liability, workers’ comp, and auto coverage, and follows up before policies expire |
| Preliminary notices | Reviews completed jobs each week and sends preliminary notices on open balances, so Titan never misses the window to protect its right to file a lien |
Titan’s onboarding playbook
- Shadowing: The new hire shadowed Joey’s day-to-day work one-on-one to learn Titan’s process and how Joey likes things done.
- Documenting: Together they built spreadsheets and SOPs for each responsibility.
- End-of-day reports: In the early weeks, the new hire sent a daily wrap-up covering what she finished, any trouble she ran into, and any blockers.
- Daily check-ins, ongoing: They still chat every day, from a friendly hello at login to questions throughout the day and a wrap-up at the end.
Compared to an in-person hire, Joey found far less time spent on paperwork and hand-holding.
“I felt confident of, here you go, I think you can just take it and go. It hasn’t been as much babysitting on my part.”
— Joey
The results
Time back. Joey is no longer working nights and weekends, and she’s confident every invoice is entered correctly every week.
“I’m not feeling like I’m drowning anymore. I’m not working weekends, I’m not working nights. I have that back, and it is because I have [her].”
— Joey
No more audit scramble. Titan’s insurer audits subcontractor compliance every year, and it used to mean a last-minute scramble to chase down 50+ subs. The new hire’s color-coded tracker changed that.
Initiative without reminders. She proactively sends progress updates, and when Joey asks to revisit something in a few weeks, she brings it back right on time.
Deadlines met. With the day-to-day covered, Joey has caught up on reconciliations, keeps receivables current, and meets her deadlines every month.
On this year’s insurance audit
“They’re going to come to us and say, hey, it’s audit time, we need these. And we’ll be like, boom, here’s our file. We’re good to go. And that’s because we have [her].”
— Joey, Titan Roofing & Construction
Deciding which roles go remote
Titan’s test is simple. If a role needs someone to be a face in the office and hands-on with the crews and contractors who come through, it stays local. If the work can be done from anywhere, it’s a candidate for a remote hire.
“It exceeded my expectations. It’s been extremely smooth, extremely seamless.”
